First Gen Integrated Report 2020

It’s getting harder to stay.

In 2020, the onslaught of typhoons during the latter half of the year compounded the challenges already posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. Massive and frequent flooding caused by intensifying typhoons displace thousands of people every year. And it’s only going to get worse.

It cannot be denied that the climate crisis has an invisible yet steady hand in all of this. Rising sea levels caused by melting ice caps and glaciers are the result of human activity and have far-reaching social and political consequences. Soon enough, floods, like droughts, will make many parts of the world uninhabitable, forcing large populations to abandon their homes and migrate to safer areas. This will add to the surge of migrants to more temperate countries that has created a backlash and caused social unrest.

The climate crisis has urgently come upon us in recent years, but it is actually a result of just a few decades of accelerating carbon emissions from uncontrolled human activity. Over 50% of the carbon dioxide in the atmosphere was emitted in just the last 30 years. It is our responsibility to address it and mitigate its effects before it is too late. We must act now, so that we can all secure our homes and our future.

As part of the FPH Group, we at First Gen remain hopeful and have made it our mission to forge collaborative pathways for a decarbonized and regenerative future.
