Employee Empowerment through E-planting

A decarbonized and regenerative future is the work of all. On September 19, 2020, First Gen and FPH employees conducted their first e-Planting project for the indigent communities in Lobo, Batangas. The project demonstrates how employees contribute to the Company’s chosen path amid the challenges of the pandemic.

ABOUT THE PROGRAM

The e-Planting project utilized the internet to make the program safe and efficient for both employees and partner communities. Employees encoded their information, the number of seedlings they wish to plant, and booked and paid for their chosen plot on the e-Planting website. Each mangrove seedling cost PHP150.0 apiece, and the employees had their names imprinted on bamboo slats that served as markers for their adopted seedlings.

The seedlings were sowed by the volunteers from the two recipient community organizations in Lobo—the Olo-Olo Seaside Workers Association and Samahan ng Maliliit na Mangingisda sa Pangangalaga ng Kalikasan sa Brgy. Lagadlarin. Other organizations such as the pro-environment groups Project Center of Center and Create for the Climate initiatives, the local government of Lobo, the ABS-CBN Lingkod Kapamilya Foundation, and the Lobo Marine Environment Conservation Federation also contributed to making this virtual project a reality. The day of planting was live- streamed through Facebook and Zoom for donors to join the activity virtually.

RESULTS OF THE PROGRAM

The project resulted in 1,204 seedlings planted. The funds generated from the e-Planting activity also supplemented the income of 55 members from the two organizations. The accumulated funds will aid them in their losses due to the pandemic.

EmPOWER THE FUTURE

The e-Planting project is one of the many projects under the Employee Power (EmPOWER) Program of the Company that aims to create positive change through civic and community projects. This program highlights the employee's strong sense of bayanihan and commitment to elevating the community and the environment.
